Worship in Depth
You are welcome at Ascension. When coming to here you’ll find ample parking and easy access to the building through our glass double-doors, just off the parking lot. The sanctuary is easy to find. Upon entering the building, you’ll enter our gathering space. Turn to your right and the sanctuary is right there. Feel free to look around our gathering space. You’ll find many announcements and further information about Ascension.
A greeter will greet you at the entrance. An usher will give you a worship bulletin and, if necessary, help you find a seat. A weekly announcement page is inserted into every worship bulletin. The 8 am worship service is much smaller and simpler. Please take a worship bulletin from the stand at the entrance to the sanctuary and sit where you please.
Everything you need for participating in worship at Ascension is in the worship bulletin and visitor-friendly. At the 10:15 am worship (10 am in the summer), music and portions of the worship service are projected on the wall for greater participation. Parents of young children will find a basket of children’s books in the gathering space. Sound from the sanctuary is audible in the gathering space and the worship service is visible through windows. A nursery is also available where parents may take children 5 years and younger.
Worship at Ascension is rooted in the Lutheran tradition and includes four parts: Gathering, Word, Meal and Sending. The Gathering is when we are brought together from our various paths to confess our sins, receive God’s forgiveness, pray, and sing. The Word is when we listen to God’s Word. There is a Children’s Sermon, Scripture readings, a sermon, and music. The choir and/or bell choir usually present a musical piece as well. The Meal is Holy Communion. All are welcome at Jesus’ table of grace. Ushers assist members and visitors alike to receive Holy Communion. The Sending is when we are sent to go and follow Jesus throughout the week. It includes a blessing, song, and the words: “Go in peace, serve the Lord!”
Before, during or following worship, several Ascension members may introduce themselves and get to know you. Feel free to stay and chat. The Pastor greets worshippers as they exit the sanctuary.
