Fellowship

Whenever the people of Ascension are gathered it is an opportunity for fellowship and friends.

Ascension offers many opportunities for fellowship. Both small interest groups and large congregational events help our members get to know one another better as well as make new members feel welcome and enjoy the chance to be involved.

  • Women of the church meet monthly in the Wheel of Friendship. During this time they have Bible study, plan church-wide events, volunteer their time and talents for both local and global Lutheran causes. Lunch often follows. Among the events the group sponsors is the annual "Souper Bowl" Luncheon which serves as a fund-raiser for ELCA World Hunger.

  • Our Altar Guild volunteers take care of Sunday altar needs. Creative members handcraft banners to bring a spiritual beauty to our sanctuary. Even those who take care of seasonal outside care of the church take time to visit and eat following clean-up.

  • In September, the congregation celebrates “Coming Home Sunday.” This day starts our new Christian education year with picnic food and games for youth.

  • An Easter brunch and Mother’s Day Breakfast as well as Lenten soup suppers bring members together for food and friendship.

  • Various committees such as Christian Education, Evangelism, Finance and Worship are small groups that welcome new members with a chance to get involved.

  • Social groups include the OWLS (Older Wiser Lutherans) who frequently attend plays together, gather for New Year’s Eve, and enjoy special interest outings such as museums and concerts.

  • Members who have a special love for music participate in our lively Bell Choir and Ascension’s Chancel Choir.

  • Our Sunday School program is specifically structured so that many adults interact with the youth of our congregation.

  • Youth and adult mentors often participate summer mission opportunities. Their work on behalf of others also brings the opportunity to relax and pray together after a hard day’s work.
