Social Engagement
“Undivided” racial reconciliation program with House of Joy church. Ascension - a primarily white congregation - is joining with House of Joy - a primarily black congregation - to do the work of racial reconciliation. On Tuesday evenings in Lent we will enter into a time of learning and dialogue to build bridges and remove the walls that divide us. While the time to sign up for Undivided has passed, please keep in your prayers the approximately 50 people from House of Joy and Ascension who are participating in this program.
“I’ll Push You” movie. On Saturday, February 29 at 5 pm, Ascension will host a screening of the movie, “I’ll Push You.” You can’t see this on Netflix! Lent is a pilgrimage. This movie tells the story of a special pilgrimage of two lifelong friends who trekked the Camino de Santiago in Spain. The twist? One is in a wheelchair. A delicious meal of tapas will be served. Come to watch the movie, enjoy good food, fellowship, and consider the pilgrimage that God is calling you on this Lent.
VEIL (Vida Eterna Iglesia Luterana) is a Spanish-speaking ELCA congregation in West Chester. This Lent we will be joining with ELCA congregations in the Cincinnati Conference to raise money to support VEIL. Up to $25,000 will be matched by a generous grant from Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Kenwood. VEIL does significant ministry with the Latino community. They hope to be self-sufficient in one generation. Please consider making donation by using one of the marked envelopes at worship on Sunday mornings.
